Fadeguard™
Environmental control of UV deterioration

Fadeguard™ ultraviolet light resistant glass provides effective solutions for the protection of display goods, paintings, furnishings and fabrics which may be damaged by ultraviolet light. Many materials, fabrics and paints will suffer from fading or degradation due to ultraviolet light transmitted through glass. Fadeguard™ products have been developed specifically to considerably reduce these problems by controlling the transmission of light in the UV spectrum.

Manufactured using the latest glass laminating technology, all Fadeguard™ laminated products have good optical and mechanical properties.

The UV resistant properties of Fadeguard™ can be combined with light diffusing, low iron and solar control glasses to offer the ultimate answer to variable gallery lighting requirements.

Fadeguard™ is designed to offer extensive and permanent UV protection for the architectural envelope excluding the need to employ specific devices for particular elevations or items. For this reason Fadeguard™ is selected to protect national treasures throughout the UK, from paintings and furnishings to irreplaceable public documents.

Deterioration of artifacts can be effected by infra-red radiation; in order to address this potential problem Fadeguard™ can be specified to include effective infra-red protection. Please note that this may altar colour rendition, light transmission and solar control figures.

Glass as a protector

Fadeguard™ is a product designed to allow high levels of natural daylight to pass through whilst filtering ultra violet light. Exhibitions of priceless artifacts on view in fine natural lighting conditions would probably not take place without the envelope protected in such a way.

Fadeguard™ also allows sufferers of conditions aggravated by ultra violet light to live a natural life in the comfort of their home without the need for blinds or shutters.

UV Filtering Glass
Fadeguard I.R.™

Fadeguard I.R.™ designed to address deterioration through both Ultra Violet and Infra Red light transmission. With U.V. transmission below 2% and I.R. transmission greatly reduced Fadeguard I.R.™ can offer extended performance for the preservation of valued articles.

Fadeguard Insul
Fadeguard™ incorporated into hermetically sealed units for thermal insulation.

Case Studies

Fadeguard™ UV resistant glass has been installed in sections of The Duke of Northumberland's Gallery at Syon House, near London. The glass was specified for the project in order to protect the paintings and interior of the gallery from fading. Using Fadeguard™ for the whole of the roof-light section makes good use of natural light inside the gallery without artifacts suffering from sun rays.

Contractors for the National Gallery and the National Portrait Gallery in London specified and installed Fadeguard™ ultraviolet resistant glass to protect artifacts from suffering degradation by harmful rays in the UV spectrum. Fadeguard™ is developed and manufactured by Glazeguard at our in-house processing department and is distributed nationwide.

Deterioration may be caused by mediums other than UV light, therefore we are unable to comment on the causes, effects or levels of deterioration to specific materials. Advice regarding the causes of deterioration should be requested from either the manufacturer of the product to be protected or an appropriate industry affiliated body.
